Hair Conditioner Tips

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Hair conditioner is product that is supposed to improve the texture and appearance of human hair. Hair conditioners, unlike shampoos, bind to the hair and do not completely wash out in order to give the hair the desired appearance. Most people use this product because your hair is one thing you do not want squeaky clean. The real function of a good hair conditioner is to treat the hair after shampooing and help tame it for the next grooming process; combing, drying, curling, straightening etc.

Conditioners, similar to shampoos, come in various forms. Again you can find products specific to the result you are looking for. Although the original purpose of hair conditioners was to just help detangle clean hair, you can now get one that will solve one of the many problems you may have. Do you need a moisturizer? reconstructer? detangler? glosser? thermal protector? Do you have coarse? super curly? very dry? very fine? thinning? frizzy? or colored? hair. There is a product out there for you! Just remember the conditioner is leaving product on your hair, whether it is a lot for dry hair or light for fine hair, to give it the appearance of luster and gloss.

If you have curly, coarse, dry or damaged hair, try to condition every time you shampoo or wet your hair. Obviously a moisturizing conditioner would be best for you. You may also want to consider deep conditioners. Fine or limp hair can actually do without any conditioner. You may just need a detangler if that is your problem. If you do use a conditioner be sure to apply it only to the ends to mid shaft of your hair. This will prevent a greasy oily look you want to avoid.

Tips

- For best results, apply hair conditioner to wet hair after you have squeezed out most of the water.

- Take some conditioner in your hands and work it through your hair. For normal hair start half way up the shaft and pull through to the ends. For a dry scalp or very dry and damaged hair use it on the entire length of your hair including the scalp.

- Rinse out conditioner with cool, not warm or hot, water to get a shiny mane.

- Cover your hair with conditioner right before a swim to protect it from the harsh pool chemicals.

Shower Curtain Cleaning Tips

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Nobody wants to be taking a shower or a bath, cleaning themselves up, only to look up and see a dirty, scummy shower curtain. Unfortunately, your shower curtain is going to get dirty. Being in such damp conditions and with such soap scum build up – well, you’re going to have a dirty shower curtain on your hands. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to clean up your shower curtain.

You can wash your shower curtain in your basic everyday clothes washer. Just use about 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of bleach. Then add white towels and a regular amount of your normal laundry detergent and run the machine. Also use some liquid fabric softener. Do not run your machine on hot – plastic shower curtains could melt.

When you’re done washing your shower curtain, do not place it in the dryer (again, it could melt). Instead, simply hang it up in its regular place on the shower rod and let it drip dry.

No matter what your shower curtain is made out of, fabric, vinyl, or plastic, you can stick it in the washing machine with a cup of baking soda instead of bleach and vinegar. It is also a good idea to read the label on your shower curtain to check for any warnings or suggestions.

If you soak your shower curtain in salt water, it will prevent mildew (although, it could leave small crystals on your curtain if you use too much salt). Before hanging shower curtains, soak in vinegar or salt water solutions to prevent mold and mildew. To remove mold and mildew, wash in hot soapy water with a little bit of bleach. For plastic curtains, clean with laundry pre-wash spray. Spray along the top, letting it run down to cover the curtain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, then rinse it off.

Family Camping Tents - How to Choose the Right One

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

An important aspect of an enjoyable camping experience is having the right family tent. Camping is one of the most fun outdoor activities, but using the wrong tent can dampen the whole experience.

There are some questions that you should ask yourself in order to ensure that you choose the perfect tent for both you and your family.

First of all, a basic but important question to answer is how many people will be using the tent? This will determine the right style and size that you need.

You might even want to consider buying a tent slightly bigger than what you need. For example, if you need a tent for 5, consider buying a 6 person tent. That way you should have plenty of room for everyone.

What kind of conditions should the tent be able to handle? Will you be camping in the summer? Spring and summer? Or will you camp year round? You want to purchase a tent that can handle the various conditions you’re likely to encounter.

There are family camping tents made mostly for fair weather and there are 3 or 4 season family tents.

How often will the tent be used? You want a durable family tent if you’re planning on camping frequently. If you’re camping with very active children, you definitely want a durable tent!

How much interior space do you want or need? If you want to be comfortable, you need to take sleeping space and storage into account. Do you want standing room? Consider buying a family dome tent.

Will you be hiking or backpacking? You should look for a lightweight tent that you can easily transport.

Shapes And Styles

Family camping tents are available in different shapes and can be small enough for 3 and large enough to hold 10+.

Family Cabin Tents

Cabin tents can be sectioned off to create two or more rooms and usually allow multiple entry and exit points.

Dome Style Family Tents

The rounded shape of a family dome tent adds strength, good wind resistance and good interior space.

A-Frame Style Tents

A-frame tents have a simple, lightweight design. They’re usually freestanding and easy to set up. There’s good room at the floor but less room up top for standing.

Umbrella Style Tents

Umbrella style tents have spacious head and floor space, can hold many people, and have good ventilation.

Different Season Tents

There are 2, 3 and 4 season family camping tents.

Two season tents are fair weather tents that are usually very inexpensive.

Three season tents are the most popular and are able to handle rain.

Four season tents have heavier construction to fight off wind stress and snow loads. They’re made of higher grade fabrics and contain more poles for added strength.

Four season tents can possibly feel hot and heavy if used in moderate weather.

Shop from a variety of family tents - you’ll find smaller 3 person tents and larger 7+ person tents

Essential Tools Every Gourmet Kitchen Should Have

Friday, March 20th, 2009

I am an amateur cook, I say that because I don’t work as a cook for a living but I have been cooking for over 30 years. There are certain tools that every cook should have in their kitchen to be able to properly cook gourmet meals. First off you need to have good quality cutlery in order to be able to cut the meats and vegetables for your cooking needs. The number one item on this list of cutlery needs is a good quality chef’s knife that will probably cost you as much as seventy dollars.

Secondly you will need a couple of good cutting boards so that you aren’t chopping up your counter tops. I suggest two cutting boards because I use one for meats and one for vegetables. I like to keep them separate. You can make many choices here from cheap to higher quality, but if you want the cutting board to last you awhile I suggest that you invest a little more in a higher quality board. There are many different sizes to choose from as well and you can get one large enough to span your entire sink or one that sits on the counter, I like having one of each. As far as whether to go with wood or plastic, it is more a personal preference really but plastic will cause your knives to become dull quicker. Regardless of whether you choose a wood or plastic cutting board you will need a knife sharpener.

If you are already a great gourmet cook or are intent in becoming one you will also want some specialty knives such as Filet Knives, Carving Knives, Paring Knives, Cleavers, and possible a Bagel Cutter. You will also want Whisks for mixing, Tongs for pulling items out of hot pots or off of the grill as well as Pasta Tongs for handling pasta dishes. Of course, you will also need a variety of large spoons and ladles for soups, gumbos, and gravies.

Next we need to take a look at cookware so that you have a place to put all those items you are chopping up on your new cutting boards. The best way to go here to save money is to buy the pots and pans in sets. If you buy them one by one you will spend a fortune. One thing that is an absolute must have is a sauté pan. This is used in almost every meal I prepare and I suggest that you make sure you have one that is high quality. For the most usefulness and flexibility choose a medium size one.

Next you need a large soup pot or gumbo pot as I call it.  Most people call them soup pots but they can be used for pasta, chili, and more. This is one of the most well used pots you will have in your kitchen so don’t be afraid to invest a little here to get a quality one that will last a long time. Just remember you don’t have to get everything you need at once, you can add more items gradually.

Replace Faucets Yourself and Save

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Are you looking to replace your faucet? Before you call in a professional, you should weigh the pros and cons to paying for something that can easily be accomplished yourself. Think about how money you’ll need to pay for an evaluation and cost of labor in addition to the new faucet product you’ve purchased. With the proper tools and hardware parts, replacing your faucet can be an easy task, just follow these simple steps!

Step #1: Get the Necessary Goods
Like any ordinary do-it-yourself project, you’ll want to be fully prepared prior to beginning your faucet replacement. This means purchasing or simply finding the tools around the house that you’ll need to replace the faucet. These tools include: flashlight, basic wrench, pliers, painters or electrical tape and steel wool or other metal cleaning agent. In addition to these tools, you’ll also need the replacement faucet.

Bonus: Be sure to measure the dimensions of your current faucet before purchasing the new fixture. This way, you won’t have to run to the store multiple times to find the perfect fit.

Step #2: Take Precautions
Many homeowners get caught up in their projects and forget the basics-like turning off the water! Unless you’re prepared to get soaked, you should turn off the water to the sink. This can either be done by turning off the water main that supplies your entire house (which might not be a good idea if you have children) or simply twisting the valves beneath the faucet into the “off” position.

Bonus: Before you remove the faucet, turn the faucet on to allow extra water to drain out as well as to double check that you’ve shut off the water properly.

Step #3: Loosen & Remove
Now you’re ready to remove your old faucet! It’s time to gently loosen and remove the nuts that fasten the faucet to the sink using your basic wrench or pliers. The locations of the nuts depend on the style sink; faucets that are bottom-mounted feature nuts above the sink, while top-mounted faucet nuts are located below the sink. Once the nuts are loosened, you may remove the faucet fixture. Check for any damage to the sink area, you may want to replace this too while the faucet is removed.

Bonus: Clean the sink surface before even touching the new faucet; use steel wool or a hot water mixed with a gentle cleanser to remove buildup that’s accumulated over time.

Step #4: Align the Replacement
Since you’ve pre-measured the dimensions of your faucet, this next step should be easy! Place the new faucet in the correct area, aligning the bolts with the holes. Using your flashlight, you will places the washers and nuts on the bolt ends.

Bonus: If you’re having a hard time tightening the nuts, hold the bolts in place with a set of pliers, and then twist the nuts with your wrench.

Step #5: Test & Re-Test
You’re almost there! Now all you have to do is reconnect the water lines. First, make sure the connections below the sink are correct and properly tightened. Then, turn the water below the sink on; if you’ve turned off the water main that supplies the entire household, remember to turn it back on!

Chances are, your sink was properly installed. However, it’s always best to test while you still have your tools accessible. Try turning on the cold water. Using your flashlight, look under the faucet for any leaks while the water is running. Repeat this step with the hot water. Be sure to also check above the sink for any leaks around the base of the faucet or from the faucet itself.

Bonus: Most leaks are caused by loose nuts. If you do notice any leak, try re-tightening the nuts. Be sure to run the hot and cold water test each time to re-tighten, and look for any improvements on the leak.

Inflatable Sport Boats

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Before World War II, inflatable boats were used by the military during covert operations. These inflatable boats were good for use in shallow waters where a traditional boat would be impossible to bring. Inflatable boats were used primarily by the Europeans to transport torpedoes and cargo. After the war, the quantity of surplus inflatable boats was so high that the military started selling these boats to the public. Since then, the inflatable boat has evolved, bringing forth inflatable kayaks, inflatable canoes and dinghies, and arguably the most famous of them all, the inflatable sport boats.

Inflatable sport boats are primarily designed for recreation purposes, whether for fishing or for water sports. Some people use these boats as yacht tenders. Usually, sport boats are equipped with 40-horsepower engines that are powerful enough to sail across the open ocean without any difficulty. Their powerful engines can tow someone on water skis or a kneeboard. The maximum load this small vessel can carry is the average combined weight of four people. This means that a small group can go on a fishing trip down the lake. Scuba divers can also haul in their gears and lifelines without any problems.

When the sport boat is fully inflated, it weighs about 100 pounds. These boats can support seven people with a weight of around 2000 pounds. Inflatable sport boats are usually equipped with a 40-horsepower engine, but low-power engines are also available.

Inflatable sport boats vary in length. There are varieties that measure 230 cm, 270 cm, 300 cm, 330 cm, 360 cm, 380 cm, 430 cm and 580 cm. You can purchase an inflatable sport boat that includes a floorboard and engine at a starting price of $1500. These boats are designed to be portable, allowing you to store it inside the trunk of your car when it is fully deflated.

Fashion Jewelry Style Watch Add To The Status Of The Wearer

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Gone are the days of the old hourglass watches. Enter the era of fashion jewelry style watches that, besides telling the time are a statement about the wearer’s standing in society. Now, knowing the time is but a part of the overall functionality of present day watches. Times have indeed changed from the early sundials and hourglasses and these cumbersome timepieces have given way to the wristwatches such as the Patek Phillipe and the fashion jewelry style watches found in most watch stores today.

Mostly A Women’s Item Of Wear

Of course, you may be thinking that fashion jewelry style watches are only for women and you would be mostly right, but still the male wearer has also begun to wear items such as chains and rings as well as fashion jewelry style watches. With fashion demanding that watches be dressy and elaborate it is not surprising that many manufacturers are selling fashion jewelry style watches to cater to the changing needs of watch wearers.

You will find that such watches are made from precious metals as well as stones and that is why they are classified as Jewelry watches. You can find them in jewelry stores as well as retail shops selling watches. The buyer likes the ornamental feel of the fashion jewelry style watches as it will elevate the wearer’s status.

It is common to find that the fashion jewelry style watches use diamonds, rubies, sapphires as well as other precious stones along with gold, silver and platinum to make them objects of art and thus more appealing and easier to sell. You can find them available in bulk or you can have one customized.

Though most fashion jewelry style watches are of the wrist watch variety it is also possible to find some pocket watches that are made along the same lines. Some of these watches are antique pieces whose value is pretty high and they are most sought after. Many a red carpet has been trod on with a fashion jewelry style watch on the wrist of the celebrity.

In fact, fashion jewelry style watches are being marketed and most leading names in the watch business field are lending their names to such watches including Tiffany, Gucci, Rolex, Tissot and Tag Huer among others. You can also expect to find many different designs for the male and female wearer and it is usual for a watch collector to have more than one such watch in his or her collection.

So, if you want a watch that tells more than time but can adhere to fashion trends as well as stand the test of time then look for a branded fashion jewelry style watch.

A Camping Supply List is an Essential Part of Planning a Camping Trip

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

A well-prepared and thorough camping supply list can make a big impact on your camping adventure. Your camping supply checklist is a great way to get organized and stay organized while preparing for your family outing this season.

Your camping list can vary, depending on the season your camping or if there will be additional activities involved like hiking and fishing. If you’re new to camping and are not sure what kind of supply list to write, I suggest reading online camping reviews from expert and novice campers who have volunteered there experiences and have added their lists online.

Some essential camp items you should always include on your supply list are a tent, sleeping bag, backpack, camping furniture, camp cookware, toiletries, water, spare clothing, non-perishable food items, lighter or matches, sun-block, utensils and a camping lantern to name a few supplies.

If you’re looking for a more deluxe type of camping adventure, I suggest bringing along camping gear like a portable camp shower, campfire grill, crockpot or Dutch oven, tent heater, camp toaster, sleeping bag liner and inflatable sleeping bed, folding table and recliner chairs to add to your list. Remember to ask all of your family members including your kid’s as to what camping equipment they would like to bring along and remember to add it to your camping equipment checklist before you go shopping.
